Ansen Tang is Executive Director of the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn (UCAOB) with branches located in Bensonhurt, Dyker Heights, and Sheepshead Bay. His family emigrated from Hong Kong when he was 11 and he grew up in Bensonhurst. He recalls the area around Bay Parkway and 86th Street becoming "a small Chinatown." He started working at the non-profit UCAOB around 2007, first as a digital literacy instructor and office manager and then as executive director. "The organization's mission is to use community resources to improve the quality of life for Chinese people," he says. "This organization was founded by a group of volunteers who wanted to provide social welfare services, cultural events, a speaker’s center, and healthcare." Tang shares stories of UCAOB's Lion Dance Team and the organization's efforts during the pandemic.
